At the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year, Automotive revamped its student government to increase the power of student voices.
This year, nearly 30 students vied for 17 positions of the Student Government. Four students each from 9th–11th grades will be elected along with five 12th graders. That group then goes on to select its own president and vice president.
The group meets every Wednesday after school and periodically during school hours.
Student Government works with staff and other students to propose changes and improvements for every aspect of school life. They also go on retreats to plan for the future, volunteer in and out of school, plan social events and raise funds. Student Government reps can rightly claim victories for students on matters ranging from extended bathroom time to improving grading policy.
Mr. Deignan, the Coordinator of Student Activities, is the Student Government Advisor, along with History teacher Ms. Joseph. Please stop by Room 224 for more details.
